Even though Major League baseball’s opening day is only 10 days away, college baseball is about a third of the way through its season.
As a senior catcher/first baseman on the Ball State baseball team, I have truly begun to enjoy this point of the season.
We have grown and begun to mold into our roles and see our team battle tested. What is so special about late March? Well, we get to experience in conference play.
We start our Mid-American Conference regular season schedule. This is the beginning of our team being able to accomplish our goals.
Obviously every team’s goal at the end of the day is to be the last one standing in Omaha. The only way you get to Omaha is by making the NCAA Tournament.
Since Ball State is a mid-major school, the only true shot at making the big dance is by winning the conference tournament at the end of the season, which gives an automatic bid. All our dreams and goals ride on winning the Mid-American Conference.
I may be biased, but I believe in my team with all my heart that we will accomplish this goal of winning the MAC.
We have played tough competition and battled head-to-head with the best.
The conference season is great because it’s a fresh start. Everybody loves having a clean slate, but we also realize it is a long season.
It doesn’t matter how we played in the past. We have won some great games, but it doesn’t matter anymore because every game in our conference in competitive. There’s great baseball in this league.
Ball State baseball is better than ever and we work everyday with our goal of getting to the NCAA Tournament in mind. The time has finally come for us to go out and take it.
We play for our school and we play for each other. Those are the ingredients that allow a team to have a real shot at making a run in this new season. Our baseball program is founded on believing.
We believe. I believe. You should too.
