Toronto Blue Jays Select Colin Brockhouse in MLB Draft

The Ball State baseball team was represented in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft Wednesday afternoon when the Toronto Blue Jays selected junior Colin Brockhouse.

Brockhouse, a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was taken in the 24th round by the Blue Jays. The right-handed pitcher held the opposition to a .203 batting average this spring, the lowest by any Ball State pitcher with at least 10 innings pitched.

He carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning against West Virginia on Feb. 26. Brockhouse went on to finish with a stat line of 8.0 innings pitched, two runs, three hits and a career-high nine strikeouts against WVU.

In the season opener against No. 22 Maryland, Brockhouse struck out eight batters in 4.1 innings of relief to earn the victory. He concluded the year by earning the start in the MAC Tournament opener against Ohio. Brockhouse went 5.2 innings, struck out seven batters and held Ohio to two runs.

This was the second consecutive season Brockhouse’s name came up in the MLB Draft. The Pittsburgh Pirates picked Brockhouse in round 37 one year ago.

Eight Ball State baseball players have now been selected in the MLB Draft spanning the last four years.

Ball State concluded the 2017 season with a 30-28 overall record and 14-10 mark in the MAC. This was the fifth straight year the Cardinals reached the 30-win plateau.
