The #Chirpies Return Monday Night

The biggest night in Ball State Sports, The #Chirpies, return April 15 recognizing outstanding student accomplishments on and off the field from the previous year.

Organized and presented by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and sponsored by Ball State Athletics and Ball State Sports Link, the event has a new home in 2019 — Worthen Arena.

The #Chirpies, also streaming live on Facebook, is a free event and open to the general public. The first 200 students at the event will receive a commemorative #Chirpies t-shirt.

Red carpet arrivals begin at 6:15 p.m, while Indiana’s favorite party band, Dave & Rae, hit the stage at 7 p.m. The awards portion of the night begins promptly at 7:15 p.m.

The #Chirpies, modeled after the ESPYs, will hand out multiple awards including Comeback Athlete of the Year, Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, Play of the Year and more.

Sports Link senior Alex Thomas and field hockey senior Michelle Shampton are the hosts, while members of SAAC and fellow student-athletes will present the awards.

Special guests include Ball State alumni Jason Whitlock and Darnell Smith from the set of Speak For Yourself at the Fox Sports studios in Los Angeles and ESPN’s John Anderson from the set of SportsCenter in Bristol.

Sophomore Daria Buschur and freshman Luke Astle are Sports Link’s executive producers, while senior Connor Nichols will direct the broadcast.

The entire event can be followed on social media by following #Chirpies.
