Sports Link To Host MIC Network High School Day; Vince Welch Keynote

Ball State Alum and FOX Sports broadcaster Vince Welch will keynote a high school sports media workshop on campus Monday, Feb. 3 hosted by the nation’s first digital sports production program, Ball State Sports Link.

Ball State head football coach Mike Neu, women’s volleyball head coach Kelli Miller Phillips and Deputy Athletics Director Haven Fields will highlight the morning session with a session on what makes a great teammate and leader.

An extension of Sports Link’s high school workshops and seminars, 75-plus students from the Metro Interscholastic Conference (Warren Central, Center Grove, North Central, Pike, Carmel, Ben Davis, Lawrence North, Lawrence Central) and the MIC Network, will be gather for a day of learning and interaction in Ball State’s College of Communication, Information, and Media.

Sessions include pathways to college, an introduction to the Department of Telecommunications and afternoon workshops on live sports production, storytelling and social media brand.

The panels will be hosted in Ball State Studio A in the Ball Communications Building. Studio A is one of the largest installed virtual studios in the country.

10:45 a.m. Walking Tour of College of Communication, Information, and Media
Explore Ball State’s studios, centralized fibered ESPN control room, Unified Media Lab and more with a Sports Link student-led tour through our College.

11:30 a.m. Lunch in The Atrium
Whether you want a custom-made salad, pizza, burrito bowl, or vegan burger, you can find it here. The Atrium is home to two of Ball State’s six national brands, Papa John’s and Chick-fil-A Express

1:15 p.m. Sports Broadcasting: More Than A Voice — FOX Sports Vince Welch
As the demand for sports media production and unique content grows, so too does the need for talented people trained to share information in an entertaining and skillful manner. In front of a camera or behind-the mic, sports broadcasting is more than a voice.
